Coherent versus noncoherent massive SIMO systems: Which has better performance?

In this work we compare non-coherent methods with pilot-aided coherent communication methods in a SIMO channel with a large number of antennas. We find numerically that if the coherence time is low or the channel noise is high, non-coherent methods may outperform coherent methods.
